2012-2013 Supply List

The school supply list for 2012-2013 is now online!

2013 - 14 School Year Notification - Elementary only - Early Release Wednesdays

On May 13, 2013 the Hermiston School Board voted to approve a 45 minute Early Release at the elementary level EVERY Wednesday @1:45 pm for the 2013-14 School Year.

Middle and High School will have a Late Start every Wednesday.

This decision was influenced and arrived upon after significant parent feedback.  Parents of elementary parents exhibited deep concern when questioned about the possibility of performing a late start due to day care challenges, and secondary parents were equally concerned about the affect an early release would have on their student if they participated in after school athletics, clubs, and activities.  Similarly, when questioned, parents of all aged students preferred a shorter (e.g. 1 hr) start or stop time modification weekly rather than a longer modification (e.g. 2 hr) every other week.  And finally, in order to further minimize the impact on parents/community, as well as avoiding having to lengthen student days or the student year due to seat time requirements, we chose to proceed with a shorter (45 min) modification rather than the typical hour or hour and a half most districts have incorporated into their schedules.

Reading Buddies Video Released

Reading Buddies is a long-standing program at West Park Elementary School. This program pairs older students with youngers students. Older students help the younger ones with reading while getting a chance to practice their own skills.  Watch the video here.

Welcome to West Park!

To our West Park Families,
Welcome to a school that has a long history of excellence and traditions. Let me tell you a little about what West Park is...
  • Child centered
  • A positive, welcoming, safe environment
  • Successful students, meeting high expectations
  • Building relationships with students, staff, families, community, and others
  • Taking PRIDE in West Park’s accomplishments and traditions
West Park Elementary serves approximately 615 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Instruction is focused on the needs of the student and curriculum standards are used to measure student achievement. We are “serving the needs of all children with rigorous program choices, high expectations, mutual respect, and excellence in all endeavors.”
West Park's mission is to Engage ALL students in higher levels of learning.
Goals of Hermiston School District & West Park Elementary!
1.  Annually, 90% of HSD students will meet individual growth targets, as measured by the Oregon State Report Card (grades 3-11) and DIBELS/easyCBM assessment systerm (grades K-2).
2.  Maintain sound fiscal stewardship of community resources consistent with board policies.
3.  Annually increase postsecondary accessions by 3 percent, as measured by the number of students choosing collegiate (two year or four year programs), vocational, apprenticeship or military training immediately following high school.

Our partnering with parents to meet these goals is vital to the success of our students.  We have made some improvements that show the Pride Inside. We would love to have more parent involvement in our Site Council.  We do have a PTO at West Park  that helps with functions, activities, and fund-raising efforts for our students.

Please volunteer and be a part of the PRIDE inside!
